Elimination & Toileting

Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to: 1.    Discuss the basics of elimination and toileting. 2.    Identify common problems of the elderly or ill related to elimination and toileting. 3.    Discuss potential consequences and complications of impaired elimination and toileting. 4.    Describe proper skin care for incontinent patients, residents or clients. 5.    Explain how elimination and toileting devices can help prevent potential complications. 6.    Demonstrate safe and effective urinary catheter care. 7.    Demonstrate safe and effective ostomy care. 8.    Demonstrate how to safely transfer a client to bedside commode using a transfer belt. 9.    Demonstrate how to assist a patient, resident or client with using a bedpan, 10.  Demonstrate how to measure and record urinary output. 11.  Explain how improving communication can prevent elimination and toileting problems.
